Migrations
Every day last week, as I drove to Sutton Studios from my home in Deerfield I saw dozens of motorcycles in the northbound lanes of the Edens Expressway. Some riders traveled solo, others in groups of three or more for safety and camaraderie. Every day when I got off the expressway I saw more big bikes– riders having ventured off the expressway into Wilmette and Skokie in search of fuel for their shiny machines and refreshments for themselves.
Like the swallows flocking to Capistrano, the Harley-Davidsons were flocking to Milwaukee all week for the annual anniversary party at the Harley-Davidson factory. The big bikes are a beautiful sight on a hot August day.
When the swallows return to Capistrano, the people there know that Spring is near at hand. Likewise, when I see the Harleys headed to Milwaukee I know I’m seeing a reliable harbinger of Summer’s end.
Though Labor Day weekend may seem a sad time for school aged children and some young adults, here at Sutton Studios it’s an exciting time of year. Here, the end of summer means that the Dog Days Calendar is about to go to press.

The proofs for the 2009 calendar look just gorgeous. We’ll print 5,000 of the calendars this year and donate them to animal shelters and animal welfare agencies all over Chicagoland. These organizations will in turn sell the calendars and keep 100% of the proceeds to help finance their good works.
Keep your eye on the Suttons Studios website and watch your e-mail inbox for the official announcement next month. We’ll tell you when the calendars are ready and where to get them.
